Man Jailed Over Bible Study

The title could have been ripped right from the headlines of the New York Times, the Huffington Post or the National Enquirer and is designed to start your adrenaline flowing due to seething hatred of the gummint. However it is misleading once you read the facts. And I have some mixed feelings regarding the issue:

A Phoenix man who held weekly Bible studies at his home has had the book thrown at him over the religious gatherings. Michael Salman (pictured above) has been sentenced to two months in jail and more than $12,000 in fines because the group sessions at his home were against the city's building code, Fox News Radio reported.


"They're cracking down on religious activities and religious use," Salman told Fox News Radio. "They're attacking what I as a Christian do in the privacy of my home."

Vicki Hill, Phoenix's chief assistant city prosecutor, said religious freedom had nothing to do with it and that it was a matter of public safety.

"Any time you are holding a gathering of people continuously, as he does – we have concerns about people being able to exit the facility properly in case there is a fire," Hill told Fox News Radio. "It came down to zoning and proper permitting."

The battle between Salman and the city of Phoenix is a longstanding feud. Hill said that Salman's neighbors complained of the gatherings back in 2007 because they were causing too much traffic congestion. Originally, about 15 people would attend the Bible studies, Fox News Radio reported.

But that number began to grow, and that's when Phoenix officials sent Salman a letter saying that his living room gatherings were in violation of the city's building codes.

When he didn't stop hosting the groups, the Phoenix Fire Department broke up a Good Friday gathering Salman was hosting at his home in 2008 in which there were as many as 20 people in the backyard.

Salman then decided to construct a 2,000-square-foot building in his backyard and move the gatherings there. He said that he applied for and was granted the appropriate permits for the building.

Hill, however, said that the permits Salman received were for converting his garage into a game room.

Finally, in 2009, a dozen cops raided Salman's home and charged him with 67 code violations for hosting the gatherings.

Since then, the courts have sided with the city, saying that Salman was using the building as a church and, therefore, was subject to city zoning laws.

"He built a structure that he said wasn't a church that is, in fact, a church," Hill told Fox News Radio.

"The state is not saying that the Salmans can't run a church or have worship services at the location," read a Jan. 4, 2010, Arizona court ruling. "But the state is saying that if they do so, they must do it properly and in accord with fire and zoning laws."

Salman doesn't buy the court's argument and has claimed that Phoenix officials are discriminating against him for his religious beliefs.

"If I had people coming to my home on a regular basis for poker night or Monday Night Football, it would be permitted," he told Fox News Radio. "But when someone says to us we are not allowed to gather because of religious purposes – that is when you have discrimination."

Salman's attorney is appealing the ruling and Salman's sentencing, but unless a federal court intervenes, Salman will begin serving his sentence on July 9.

The first Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Did the city of Phoenix violate Mr. Salman's Constitutional rights by prohibiting his free exercise of his religious beliefs and disallowing him and those within his home the right to peaceably assemble?  I would have to say in my opinion the city violated Mr. Salman's rights.


Did Mr. Salman ignore the cities request not to violate building codes and safety codes. In my opinion, by the text of the article, he did not follow the cities ordinances or obey the law. It would appear that he tried to evade the law by use of falsehood in identifying the purpose of the out building he constructed.

As a Christian living in a world that ridicules me for my beliefs, any government intrusion frightens me and does not give me the warm fuzzies for the future. As one who lived withing a few hundred yards away from one of the worst fires in United States history that was determined to be caused by building code violation and killed over 200 souls, I am appalled that anyone would ignore building codes.

When I was a young man during the Jesus Revolution, there were plenty of instances that I found myself cross-legged on the floor, Bible in my lap with 20 to 40 others folks. Was that a good idea? Probably not. Some of the groups I attended grew too large to contain in a house, and alternatives were sought. More often the study was moved to a church hall or some other building that was zoned for that sort of function.

I do not believe the city of Phoenix over-reached the law by requiring Mr. Salman and his Bible study group to not assemble at the Salman residence. This situation should have been avoided by holding the Bible study in a lawful structure.

Death of a Great Soul - Jane Kelly Durham

Last night, GOD called back to Himself a Great Soul, Jane Kelly Durham. Janie was a true saint: courageous, generous, smart, sweet, strong, ---- I could literally go on for paragraph after paragraph, but how do you describe a real life guts and glory saint?!

Of all her admirable traits, and as I said above, these could fill a book, but of them all, the three most outstanding to me were:

1 - Her LOVE: Jane loved everyone as GOD loves them, and would forgive anything a bazillion times over if only asked for with a sincere heart. There was no pretense with Jane, no pre-requests, no holds barred. Jane loved with her whole heart, without compromise, without limits.

2 - Her COURAGE: Jane suffered horrendously, both in her personal life (the death of her husband and most of her family are but a few of the examples) and physically as she battled the ravages of Cancer (as well as the cancer treatments and surgeries) that slowly ate her alive over years of struggle and caused her unspeakable pain. Yet through it all, Jane not only kept her own spirits up, but was a daily inspiration through snail mails, emails, phone calls, and Facebook to anyone suffering anything in anyway. She offered them her shoulder to cry on; a listening and non-judgemental ear to hear their cries; her heart to love them; and her faith to remind all who came to her that GOD was still in control, that He loved them, He would never abandoned them, and someday He would make everything all right.

3 - Her HUMOR: Jane had the earthy humor of a true saint in the ink of others such as St. Padre Pio, St. Augustine, St. Teresa, G.K. Chesterson (sp?), and Mother Theresa of Calcutta. She was an ardant subscriber to the John Wayne philosphy: "Don't let the bastards get you down!" True Victim Soul and Prayer Warrior that she was, Janie could find the humor in anything if it was to be found, and if not, she would laugh at her own reaction to whatever circumstance. She could do this because her unshakeable Christian faith assured her that GOD loves us and He is in control. All we have to do is sit back, let go, and let GOD.

Now let me beg you all for your prayers; prayers not for Jane --- Jane is in Heaven enjoying eternal life with our LORD and Savior JESUS Christ. Of that fact I have absolutely no doubt. But if you could spare some prayers, please pray for Jane's family --- especially her teenage daughter, who despite Jane's absence from her life because of illness and because Jane had to spend the last several years of her life in a hospital instead of at home with her daughter, still loved her "mums" and appreciated the brief moments of joy they had left --- now that sweet child faces the world alone without father or mother. May GOD have mercy and keep her ever close to His Heart.

Please pray for all those faceless people who daily looked to Jane for comfort, for courage, for hope, for inspiration, and humor, especially her Facebook fans.

Finally, please pray for her friends... me, among them. There are no good words at the moment to describe to you the devastating loss that Jane's passing rips into my heart. Hearing her thick Irish accent on the phone, her letters, her great humor, the pictures, cartoons, posters --- hilarious and wonderful all! The thought of never again having Jane in my life, this side of Heaven, is frankly, unbearable. That's all I can say about it right now.

Oh GOD! The world has gotten so much darker, and the pain --- all pain --- so much worse now. But I do thank You, LORD GOD Almighty, that our precious Jane is with You, and that all her earthly struggles and pain are OVER!!! Praise to You, LORD JESUS Christ that our Jane lives victorious and in eternal joy with You. Thank You, merciful GOD, that death did not have the final say. Thank You, GOD, that Jane is free!

Questions About Obama's Past

In 2008, candidate Obama called Bill Ayers an "English Professor" who he knows and runs into in his neighborhood. He condemned "despicable acts" Ayers committed when Obama was "eight years old."

In a move certain to fuel the debate over Obama's qualifications for the presidency, the group "Americans for Freedom of Information" has Released copies of President Obama's college transcripts from Occidental College ...

Released today, the transcript school indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate.

The transcript was released by Occidental College in compliance with a court order in a suit brought by the group in the Superior Court of California.

The transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program.

To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship.

This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama's detractors have been seeking. Along with the evidence that he was first born in Kenya and there is no record of him ever applying for US citizenship, this is looking pretty grim.

S. Ann Durham Soetoro-Obama passport and Divorce Decree

The news has created a firestorm at the White House as the release casts increasing doubt about Obama's legitimacy and qualification to serve as President article titled, "Obama Eligibility Questioned," leading some to speculate that the story may overshadow economic issues on Obama's first official visit to the U.K. In a related matter, under growing pressure from several groups, Justice Antonin Scalia announced that the Supreme Court agreed on Tuesday to hear arguments concerning Obama's legal eligibility to serve as President in a case brought by Leo Donofrio of New Jersey . This lawsuit claims Obama's dual citizenship disqualified him from serving as president.

Donofrio's case is just one of 18 suits brought by citizens demanding proof of Obama's citizenship or qualification to serve as president.

Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation has released the results of their investigation of Obama's campaign spending. This study estimates that Obama has spent upwards of $950,000 in campaign funds in the past year with eleven law firms in 12 states for legal resources to block disclosure of any of his personal records. Mr. Kreep indicated that the investigation is still ongoing but that the final report will be provided to the U.S. Attorney general, Eric Holder. Mr. Holder has refused to comment on the matter...

LET OTHER FOLKS KNOW THIS NEWS, THE MEDIA WON'T!

Subject: RE: Issue of Passport?

While I've little interest in getting in the middle of the Obama birth issue, Paul Hollrah over at FSM did so yesterday and believes the issue can be resolved by Obama answering one simple question: What passport did he use when he was shuttling between New York , Jakarta , and Karachi ?

So how did a young man who arrived in New York in early June 1981, without the price of a hotel room in his pocket, suddenly come up with the price of a round-the-world trip just a month later?

And once he was on a plane, shuttling between New York , Jakarta , and Karachi , what passport was he offering when he passed through Customs and Immigration?

The American people not only deserve to have answers to these questions, they must have answers. It makes the debate over Obama's citizenship a rather short and simple one.

Q: Did he travel to Pakistan in 1981, at age 20?

A : Yes, by his own admission.

Q: What passport did he travel under?

A: There are only three possibilities.

1) He traveled with a U.S. ... Passport,

2) He traveled with a British passport, or

3) He traveled with an Indonesia passport.

Q: Is it possible that Obama traveled with a U.S. Passport in 1981?

A: No. It is not possible. Pakistan was on the U.S. .. State Department's "no travel" list in 1981.

Conclusion: When Obama went to Pakistan in 1981 he was traveling either with a British passport or an Indonesian passport.

If he were traveling with a British passport that would provide proof that he was born in Kenya on August 4, 1961, not in Hawaii as he claims.. And if he were traveling with an Indonesian passport that would tend to prove that he relinquished whatever previous citizenship he held, British or American, prior to being adopted by his Indonesian step-father in 1967.

Whatever the truth of the matter, the American people need to know how he managed to become a "natural born" American citizen between 1981 and 2008.

Given the destructive nature of his plans for America, as illustrated by his speech before Congress and the disastrous spending plan he has presented to Congress, the sooner we learn the truth of all this, the better.

If you Don't care that Your President is not a natural born Citizen and in Violation of the Constitution, then Delete this, and then lower your American Flag to half-staff, because the U.S. Constitution is already on life-support, and won't survive much longer.

If you do care then Forward this to as many patriotic Americans as you can, because our country is being looted and ransacked!

The Plot Thickens

An intensive investigation has revealed the identity of the man whose Social Security number (SSN) is being used by President Obama: Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in France in 1890, immigrated to the United States in 1924, and was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 (Obama's current SSN) on or about March 1977.

Ludwig lived most of his adult life in Connecticut . Because of that, his SSN begins with the digits 042, which are among only a select few reserved for Connecticut residents.

Draft Card Application

Obama never lived or worked in that state! Therefore, there is no reason on earth for his SSN to start with the digits 042. None whatsoever!

Now comes the best part! Ludwig spent the final months of his life in Hawaii, where he died.

Conveniently, Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Payne Dunham, worked part-time in the Probate Office in the Honolulu Hawaii Courthouse, and therefore had access to the SSNs of deceased individuals.

The Social Security Administration was never informed of Ludwig's death, and because he never received Social Security benefits there were no benefits to stop and therefore, no questions were ever raised.

The suspicion, of course, is that Dunham, knowing her grandson was not a U.S. Citizen, either because he was born in Kenya or became a citizen of Indonesiaupon his adoption by Lolo Soetoro simply scoured the probate records until she found someone who died who was not receiving Social Security benefits, and selected Mr. Ludwigs Connecticut SSN for Obama.

Just wait until Trump gets past the birth certificate and onto the issue of Barry O's use of a stolen SSN. You will see leftist heads exploding, because they will have no way of defending Obama. Although many Americans do not understand the meaning of the term "natural born" there are few who do not understand that if you are using someone else's SSN it is a clear indication of fraud.

Driving in the South.

My daughter lives in Tennessee.

I live in the northern part of Kentucky, which the rest of Kentucky calls Ohio.

As you travel northeast to New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, 
Massachusetts or west to Los Angeles you will find that driving in these states is at your own risk. The drivers in those states are maniacs. 

This also holds true in all of California. For a non-Californian, driving there is an excercise in white-knuckles.

But the South is a different story. Not only is it a different world, where the Civil War is still a topic of hot debate, the South is well...polite.

And drivers are polite. They are either courteous to a fault, or have a bad case of freeway phobia and will stop on the entrance ramp rather than merge. At certain times, once they stop, you can be there behind them for quite a spell. If they couldn't merge at speed, can you imagine them jumping in from a stop? You just have to wait.

Center lines on back roads are often regarded as suggestions. Even the double yellow lines are disregarded if the driver feels the need to pass the vehicle in front of him. Which more often than not is painted green and displays the John Deere logo.

Now some of the locals would rather attach their canoe, ladder, or other rooftop cargo with a single bungee cord or piece of twine and mosey for miles rather than secure the load and drive. Combined with the local regard for center lines, coming upon a vehicle with rooftop cargo ahead of you is probably a good time to stop for lunch.

Speeders have out of state plates. Speeders with local plates usually drive a pickup with a Budweiser bed liner and a horn that plays the first measure of Dixie.

The Truckers in the South seem to have forgotten how to shift gears. They will routinely block uphill traffic because they were going fast enough at the bottom to get halfway past another truck by the top, regardless of posted lane restrictions. The thought of changing gears to safely climb the hill behind another truck and remain within their engine's optimum torque curve has eluded most of them.

Horns are for other people. On the rare occasion that you hear one, the car will be from somewhere else, usually a Northern state. Damn Yankee!

Drivers here DO dim their lights for oncoming traffic, usually before entering the curve.

Unlike those on Californian interstate highways, traffic jams usually consist of conversations between passing motorists or from the vehicle to someone off the road somewhere. Sometimes the drivers and the passengers just get out of the cars and eat lunch.

This Decades Childrens Books

I used to love it when Mom went shopping and brought us home a new "Little Golden Book."  We'd read it before going to bed.

My, my! Those books sure have changed from when I was a kid.

I have no anymousity to Chinese people, or anyone for that matter. I am concerned about food products that are imported from China. Periodically we hear a report that pet food, made in China, was tainted with some gawd-awful substance.  I have heard the same negative reports about baby formula and food. So I am somewhat skeptical when it comes to prepared food made in China. So I'll pass along this advice.

With all the food and pet products now coming from China , it is best to make sure you read label at the grocery store and especially Walmart when buying food products.

Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located.

It is important to read the bar code to track it's origin.

Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA ", so they don't show from which country it is made.

I liberal friend sent me an email that stated liberals were more intellegent than conservatives. The next day this Democratic Representative from Florida appeared in the news.  Yeah, this sure proves her point.
